With winter (very slowly) fading, it’s time to start thinking about a whole new spring wardrobe. Or if you’re a broke student like me, getting a few essentials in order to add some ‘oomph’ to your existing wardrobe. So here are my top 5 trends for Spring/Summer 2011. Look out for future posts with where to find the best ones!
1. Spring Leather
Whether it’s loose fitted leather shorts, vests or jackets, ditch the shearling trim and go for plain black leather looks or something studded for the spring. Make sure you layer them up with thin sweaters and thick tights to keep warm until the sun really makes a come back.
2. Tribal prints
Animal prints were big in 2010, and accents of animal will follow through to 2011, with accessories and shoes. But if you want to make a fresh statement in spring, go for bold, bright and beautiful tribal prints.
3. Orange is the new red
Statement red dresses were a massive hit in 2010, but it’s time to swap those in for a fresher shade. Bright orange is all over the runways this season, and the bolder the brighter!
4. Pure white
Minimalism was a hit last year too, and in the spirit of keeping it simple, all over crisp, pure white is in for spring/summer 2011. Keep it minimal, and go for either black accessories for a monochrome look, or tan accents for a more casual look. Also be careful not to go for anything too long or formal, you don’t want it to look like there’s a wedding some where missing a bride!
5. Mid-calf skirts
Maxi skirts and dresses have been done. Now its the turn of the slightly shorter skirt. Calf skimming skirts are in for spring/summer 2011. Wear them with sweaters and knits on top in the colder months, then with vest tops and sandals in the warm. They are so lady-like, feminine and timeless. If you’re short, avoid wearing a bold colour on top or it will only make you look shorter, go for a similar shade. If you’re tall, then go all out with a bold prints and colours.
