ASOS Curve: My favourite 5

Curve is a recent venture by the online shopping phenomenon, ASOS.  It’s one of my favourite online shops and is always my first port of call for looking at clothes I can’t afford!  I’ve had a couple of requests from more voluptuous ladies that have said I talk about clothes for tiny people too much!  So I wanted to post a few outfits for the more curvy lady and also look at what the new ASOS range has to offer.  Offering sizes 20-26, the new range means that being bigger doesn’t mean being boring with your wardrobe choices, plus the whole range is very reasonably pirced!  Here are my top 5 favourite items from ASOS Curve.

1. The Little Black Dress – Sixties Skater Dress with Belt – £40.00

This dress is looooovely!  I love the lace bodice and cut out back, and the pulled in waist and full skirt will be flattering to all shapes and sizes.  It looks great with black tights and heels, or wear with bare legs and killer heels for a night out.

2. The Playsuit – Blossom Print Playsuit – £35.00

I love the print of this playsuit, the blue will suit everybody and the hints of pink and white are adorable.  The cut out back adds a bit of excitement and the shorts are short, but not too short.  The wrap around front looks fab and creates a flattering neckline and front. It looks great with tan heels or team it with simple flats for comfort.

3. The Party Dress – Frill Front Bandeau Dress – £45.00

This dress will flatter all figures with an empire line and pulled in waist band.  The colours are gorgeous too!  I love the cut out with ruffles hidden underneath it, it adds an extra dimension to the skirt.  This is perfect for a wedding, summer BBQ or even a night out, team it with either heels or flip-flops depending on the time of day and accessorise it with some delicate bracelets and statement earrings.

4. The Comfy Top – Skinny Sleeve Top – £15.00

This top comes in a lovely terracotta colour and a more demure nude, it looks great with leggings and heels for an evening meal, or wear it with jeans and boots for a day time look. It’s baggy and therefore hides bumps, but it also looks flattering and comfy.

5. The Maxi Dress – Bandeau Cheesecloth Maxi – £30.00

This dress is sheer, but with an underskirt which means it’s still modest.  I like the floaty skirt and the detail along the bust, plus the range of colours offers something for everyone, the white is a lovely summery colour and the black could be translated easily to evening wear.

Shift up a gear: Shift dresses for Spring

This season see’s the high street being a sea of shift dresses, which I love, because they’re flattering, comfy and timeless. It’s all about covering up the cleavage and letting the legs loose. The new shift is shorter and more fitted than the sixties style original. The best way to go is a block colour in either classic black or something vibrant to really make a statement, my favourites are pinks, reds and oranges. For me, ASOS.com is the home of shifts this season.

1. Shift dress with flared skirt – £25.99 – Zara

I love this dress!!! I bought it the other week and I can’t wait to wear it to a wedding next month, I’m going to team it with thick black tights and simple black heels then go for a high bun and perhaps a bib necklace to finish the look. The darts in the front look lovely and the whole dress is such a flattering shape. Unlike the traditional shift, the fuller skirt adds a more modern edge to the dress. Plus it’s bright pink, what’s not to love?! But please don’t ever wear it with those hideous blue shoes!!

2. High cut neck shift – £30.00 – ASOS.com

Although short, this dress is simple and stunning, showing off the legs, but with a high cut neckline this is balanced. I like the slight racer back and exposed zip. I also love the shoes the model wears and the chunky black jewelery. Wear with black tights if you’re chilly, or go bare legged for a night out.

3. V back shift dress – £79.90 – Mango

Mango is very low on stock, but it is also available from ASOS.com if you’re searching for it. It looks very different colours on each page, but I think that’s a case of lighting. I’ve seen the dress in person and it’s more like the colour on the left than the right. I love the simple front and the detail in the back. It will hide any areas you don’t want on show.

4. Sleeveless knot waist shift dress – £35.00 – ASOS.com

I love all these colours, especially the blue, gorgeous! I like the twist (literally) on the classic shift with the knotted waist. The slash opening at the back is cute and the length is good for either a night out or a more classy event, perhaps with tights. Wear with hair up to show off the back and neckline.

5. Cut Out Shift Dress – £35.00 – ASOS.com

I know you’ve seen it before, but I will never get bored of blogging about this dress. I so wish I had the money to buy it – one in every colour! It’s just lovely!!

Get the Pretty Woman Look

One of my favourite films, Pretty Woman, may have been about a prostitute who falls in love with a client, but there is no denying that some of the outfits worn in the film have become iconic pieces. One of my favourite garments in the whole film, excluding the exquisite red and black gowns is the brown polka dot dress Julia Roberts wears to the Polo match.

So imagine my delight when I stumbled across a high street version of the polka dot look! And not only that, but there are a few options to choose from! Happy days.

Brown Pretty Woman Spot Dress – £48.00 – Wallis

This is the closest dress to the original in the film and if teamed with a thick tan leather belt, you could look just like Julia Roberts! It’s perfect for a wedding, big day out (perhaps polo?) or even work.

Julia Spot 50’s Sundress – £36.00 – Topshop

Slightly shorter and more modern, but still capturing the pretty woman vibe, it’s very low on stock online, so grab it quick, or get to the shops!!

Spot Shirt Dress – £28.00 – ASOS.com

A more casual version of the brown polka dot, in a shirt dress shape, again a lighter brown, for a more modern and summery look. A little shorter as well, so if your legs are as lovely and long as Julia Roberts then this dress will show them off nicely!

Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve

Seeing as it’s Valentines day, what could be more appropriate than cute clothes covered in hearts? Luckily hearts have been in fashion a long time, and will be for a lot longer too.  So there’s no need to worry about it going out of date in a few weeks like with that Santa Claus novelty jumper!

1. Heart Print Dress – £30.00 – ASOS.com

This dress is adorable, I love the shape and fullness of the skirt. I also like the print, with the nonuniform hearts scattered over the dress. It’s perfect for a summery day out or wear dressed up with heels, a blazer and jewelry for an evening out.

2. Illustrated People Heart Raglan Jumpers – £30.00 – Topshop

Slouch around in these cute jumpers by Illustrated People, in different colours and prints. Wear with a long top and skinny jeans for a casual look, or opt for wet look/leather leggings for a more edgy look and pair with heeled ankle boots.

3. Lurex Heart Jumper – £32.99 – River Island

This jumper looks lovely with high waisted black jeans, or could also be worn with a long top underneath and leggings for a comfy look. I love the soft colours used and the three quarter length sleeves. This cute jumper also comes in purple.

4. Love Heart Printed T-shirts – £8.99 each or 2 for £12.00 – New Look

These t-shirts are cute essentials and will look great for a casual day with a great pair of jeans and maybe a blazer. I love the little panda one.

5. Heart Jacquard Cardigan – £35.00 – ASOS.com

I love this cardigan!! There are very few left in stock, so if you want it, go get it now! I like the grey/white most I think. I love a good long cardigan, wear it open as the model does with highwaisted shorts/skirt, black tights and a simple white Tee. Or team it with jeans/leggings and a simple tee for a more casual/comfy look.

Cut Out the Middle Man: My Top 5 Cut Out Dresses

Cut out dresses have been around for a while, but at the moment it’s all about cut outs around the middle at the waist. Celebrities have caught on to the trend, most wearing black, but I love Audrina’s hot pink dress.

AnnaLynne McCord:: Audrina Partridge :: Kristin Cavallari :: Alexis Bledel

Cut outs at the midriff really emphasise the waist and for thin ladies with small hips, it creates the illusion of a more hourglass shape. Here are my top 5 favourite cut out dresses thanks to ASOS.com

1. Aqua Cirillo Mini Dress With Cut Out Detail£75.00 £40.00

2. ASOS Cut Out Shift Dress – £35.00

3. ASOS Cut Out Popper Dress – £40.00

4. ASOS Heavy Embellished Cut Out Body Con Dress – £45.00

5. ASOS Long Sleeve Cut Out One Shoulder Dress – £25.00

‘Til Death Did End His Greif

A friend of mine at University, Liam Southall, is studying Television Production, and has created this lovely short film, starring Luke Broadway. His innovative way of showcasing men’s fashion includes some stunning nature shots and some great outfits, put together by Naomi Farmer.

I love the film and wanted to share it, while also giving a few tips on how to create the outerwear look yourself (or for your brother/boy friend).

Chunky knit scarves

Go for neautral colours which will go with everything, like grey, cream, khaki and navy. Snoods are great as they are easy to pull on quickly and look effortlessly good.

1. Fringed Knitted Snood – £15.00 – ASOS.com

2. Ecru Chunky Knit Snood – £12.99 – River Island

3. Heavyweight Cable Knit Snood£20.00 £12.00 – ASOS.com

4. Navy Crinkle Snood Scarf – £14.00 – Topman

Comfy Coats

For this season, stay away from black coats, although timeless, the runways are opting for softer shades, like khaki, grey and navy. Go for something tailored but loose.

1. Jack & Jones Bento Wool Jacket – £110.00 – ASOS.com

2. Navy Double Breasted Mac – £70.00 – Next

3. Military Double Breasted Jacket – £60.00 – ASOS.com

4. Khaki Lightweight Parka – £60.00 – Burton

Laced with Love: My top 5 Lace dresses for SS11

I am so glad the lace trend is sticking around for at least another season. Over winter it was all about black or white lace. But spring/summer sees more colourful lace garments coming on the scene, while black is traded in for navy and white for softer creams.

Lea Michele :: Michelle Williams :: Dita Von Teese :: Natalie Portman :: Taylor Swift

Although Primark doesn’t have an online store, if you love Taylor Swift’s cream lace dress above then get to your nearest Primark as they have an almost identical version in there. And I have it 😀 … Loved it so much I bought it in black too.  Each for the bargain price of £15.00.

Here are my top 5 high street lacey dress buys…

1. Peter Pan Collar Lace Dress£45.00 £36.00 – ASOS.com

This little dress is so cute, both in teal and black. I love the little collar and the open back. It’s very short, but the high neckline balances that out. The blue is gorgeous for a daytime look with either black tights or bare legs, and the black will be great for a night out.

2. Bell Sleeve Lace Shift Dress – £48.00 – Topshop.

This cute dress looks lovely in navy, it’s a softer shade than black and therefore translates into the summer months. Wear with a high beige ankle boot and loose curls. This dress also comes in a deep red.

3. Miso Crochet Top Dress – 34.99 – Republic

I love the way this dress is divided into two sections, with the floaty pleated bottom and the lacey top. It will look lovely with either bare legs and high tan heels, or with black tights and simple heeled Mary-Janes.

4. Butter Milk Lace Long Prom Dress £65.00 £52.00 – ASOS.com

Love Love Love. This dress is gorgeous, it has the longer hem and also the lace trend rolled into one. I love the shows the model wears with it too. Stick with simple jewelery and natural waves to the hair. It’s perfect for meeting the other halfs parents, or a Christening. Dress it down with black tights, boots and a leather jacket.

5. Doll & Frog Navy Lace Dress – £29.00 – Dorothy Perkins

This dress is cute, with the exposed back and slither of lace along the hem to show some more leg. It’s demure and sexy at the same time. It looks great with simple court shoes, but I would go with either tan or beige rather than black. Stick to bare legs with navy as it won’t work with black.
