STEAL HER STYLE – PRETTY WOMAN

getty-1468997172.jpg

Back in 2011 I wrote a post about getting the Pretty Woman look – all about that brown polka dot dress she wore to the Polo – and it’s still one of my most viewed posts today! However the dresses I recommended back then are very much out of stock now, so I wanted to update the post with new options and some other ways to emulate Vivian’s look (once she’s under Edward’s wing of course).

Vivian: You’re late.
Edward: You’re stunning.
Vivian: You’re forgiven.

  3. Polly Off the Shoulder Sweetheart Skater Dress – £15 – Boohoo
  4. Crepe Bardot Midi Dress – £25 – Missguided

Also, just as an aside, my favourite fact about the movie… In the scene before the opera where Edward gives Vivian the necklace to go with her stunning red gown – remember it? Where he shuts the jewelry case on her fingers as she goes to touch it? Well that was totally unscripted and just something Richard Gere did messing around, but the producers loved it so much that it made the final cut. It’s such a lovely moment – just goes to show how real Roberts and Gere’s chemistry was on and off screen. No wonder they made so many films together!

I was in here yesterday, you wouldn’t wait on me.
You people work on commission, right?

Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now.

Return of the Mac

This April has been especially wet and windy in the UK and unfortunately it looks like it’s not going away any time soon.  So I’ve been hunting down some lovely wet weather gear to keep us all warm and cosy when we have to venture outside.  With Mac’s this season, it’s all about camel, or if you want something darker then opt for navy or dark brown rather than black to stay on trend.  With wellies, either opt for texture, bright and bold block colours or go for something girly and floral.  Here are some of my favourites, all under £100…

1. Double Breasted Raincoat – £59.99 – Zara. 2. Hayley PU Trim Storm Flap Belted Trench Coat Mac – £35.00 – boohoo.com.   3. Classic Mac – £55.00 – ASOS.  4.  Trenchcoat – £29.99 – H&M.  5.  Ladies Festival Wellies by Lora Dora– £17.99 – Amazon.  6. Wax Double Breasted Jacket – £80.00 – Topshop.  7. Seagulls Print Flexilite Umbrella  – £15.00 – M&S.  8. Nutty Knee Floral Welly – £25.00 – Office.  9. Polka dot Umbrella – £6.99 – H&M.  10. Joules Floral Print Welly – £37.00 – Office. 11. Camel Cotton Parker – £55.00 – Dorothy Perkins.  12. Jackie Double Breasted Mac – £20.00 – boohoo.com.  13. Cath Kidston Kensington-2 Umbrella£28.00 £20.00 – ASOS.  14. Trench Coat With Double Buttons – £69.99 – Zara. 19. Black Quilted Strap Wellies – £25.00 – Next.

I hope one of these helps to keep you dry…

Love,

Little Red Riding Would…

Even though Christmas is over (hope you had a good one) and although the weather isn’t reflecting it (I’m hoping for snow soon) it’s still winter.  And what better way to shake away the January winter blues than to wear a hot red dress?  Here are a few of my favourite sexy red dresses on the highstreet and online this January, and as I know everyone’s cutting back after an expensive festive season, they’re all very reasonably priced.  Plus they’re all perfect for a night out, so make like a Special K lady and dare to wear red.

1. Izanagi Cut Back£70.00 £39.99 – Izanagi*.  2. Bodycon Tunic Dress – £14.99 – New Look.  3. Strapless Skater Dress with Sweetheart neckline – £45.00 – ASOS.  4. *Izanagi is an up and coming online retail store, which has been set up by a friend of a friend.  While it’s only just been launched – on Boxing Day to be precise – it’s got great promise already with celebrity interest and some great dresses.  They have a highstreet and high end collection, so there is something for every occasion.  While their online store is currently pretty small, they are expanding all the while and should be a new port of call for all avid internet shoppers!

“Izanagi is an exclusive retailer of eccentric and extraordinary fashion for men and women.  We supply luxury fashion to people who want to look and feel good.” – IZANAGI

So keep an eye out for more to come from this promising brand via their website and twitter.

Happy dress shopping!

Love,

Browns and buckles and shearling, Oh My!

It’s that time of year when the boots get dug out of the back of the wardrobe, or if you’re like me and you wore your boots down to a wafer thin sole after last winter, then you’ll be on the prowl for some gorgeous new boots.

My favourites this season are like a softer version of biker boots, so go for brown with thick soles and either laces or buckles (or both) and shearling galore.  For me, as a 5ft 11 girl, they always have to be flats!

Here are some of my favourite brown biker style boots on the high street at the moment.  Some are more expensive, but it’s so much better to pay a little extra to get real leather and get that added durability.

1, Brown Leather Winter Boots – £95.00 – Dorothy Perkins.  2, Tan Fur Biker Boots – £45.00  – Dorothy Perkins.  3, Tan Fur-lined Lace-Up boots – £75.00 – Urban Outfitters.  4, Bronx Sheepskin strapped flat ankle boot – £85.00 – ASOS.com.  5, Sienna Shearling Ankle Boot – £70.00 – Fat Face.  6, Blowfish Jack Fleece Work Boot in Tan – £65.00 – Office.  7, Shearling Lined Biker Boots£60.00 £35.00 – River Island.*  8, Miffin Lined Biker Boots – £38.00 – Topshop.  9, Nice One Brown Leather – £80.00 – Office.

* (I found these originally on ASOS, but when looking for them on the RI website, they are reduced with £25 off – bargain!)

I have the boots from Fat Face and love them! I wear them pretty much every day, with jeans, chunky socks and thick knit cardigans.  Or with thick tights, denim shorts and my old zip up Superdry hoodie.  They’re so warm and fully lined with shearling, they’re like slightly more fashionable and more structured UGG boots as far as cosiness goes.

I hope you enjoy your own biker boots, which ever ones you might choose…

Fringe Benefits: My favourite fringed and tasseled scarves

Fringe scarves have been around for years, but this season it’s all about the longer the better on the fringe front.  Fringed and tasseled scarves and shawls can be seen all over the runways as well as on celebs…

Lauren Conrad :: Kate Moss :: Nicole Richie

With this trend it’s best to go for simple black or white.  Alternatively go all out with bright colours and patterns like Nicole Richie above.  Here are my top 10 fave high street buys…

1. Long fringe jersey shawl £14.99 – H&M.   2. Pom-pom scarf £16.90 – Mango.  3. Zig zag scarf £7.99 – New Look.   4. Scarf with small tassels £29.99 – Zara. 5. White fringed scarf £18 – Next.   6. Cream crochet scarf £29.99 – River Island.   7. Woven floral scarf £5.99 – H&M.   8. Neutral weave scarf £12.50 – Next.   9. Multi paisley square scarf £12.00 – Dorothy Perkins.   10. Tribal print foulard £16.90 – Mango.

Laced with Love: My top 5 Lace dresses for SS11

I am so glad the lace trend is sticking around for at least another season. Over winter it was all about black or white lace. But spring/summer sees more colourful lace garments coming on the scene, while black is traded in for navy and white for softer creams.

Lea Michele :: Michelle Williams :: Dita Von Teese :: Natalie Portman :: Taylor Swift

Although Primark doesn’t have an online store, if you love Taylor Swift’s cream lace dress above then get to your nearest Primark as they have an almost identical version in there. And I have it 😀 … Loved it so much I bought it in black too.  Each for the bargain price of £15.00.

Here are my top 5 high street lacey dress buys…

1. Peter Pan Collar Lace Dress£45.00 £36.00 – ASOS.com

This little dress is so cute, both in teal and black. I love the little collar and the open back. It’s very short, but the high neckline balances that out. The blue is gorgeous for a daytime look with either black tights or bare legs, and the black will be great for a night out.

2. Bell Sleeve Lace Shift Dress – £48.00 – Topshop.

This cute dress looks lovely in navy, it’s a softer shade than black and therefore translates into the summer months. Wear with a high beige ankle boot and loose curls. This dress also comes in a deep red.

3. Miso Crochet Top Dress – 34.99 – Republic

I love the way this dress is divided into two sections, with the floaty pleated bottom and the lacey top. It will look lovely with either bare legs and high tan heels, or with black tights and simple heeled Mary-Janes.

4. Butter Milk Lace Long Prom Dress £65.00 £52.00 – ASOS.com

Love Love Love. This dress is gorgeous, it has the longer hem and also the lace trend rolled into one. I love the shows the model wears with it too. Stick with simple jewelery and natural waves to the hair. It’s perfect for meeting the other halfs parents, or a Christening. Dress it down with black tights, boots and a leather jacket.

5. Doll & Frog Navy Lace Dress – £29.00 – Dorothy Perkins

This dress is cute, with the exposed back and slither of lace along the hem to show some more leg. It’s demure and sexy at the same time. It looks great with simple court shoes, but I would go with either tan or beige rather than black. Stick to bare legs with navy as it won’t work with black.

Top 5: Trends for SS11: Crisp White

With Spring coming up, push all the black to the back of the wardrobe and bring the crisp and pure white items to the front. White is great for showing off and accentuating a tan in the summer months, so get that gradual fake tan building up for when it’s warm enough to ditch the tights and bare all!

Amy Adams :: Sophia Bush :: Leighton Meester :: Kristen Cavallari

Not only can you look amazing in your LWD (little white dress) but guys love it too! Glamour.com recently reported 17 Outfit ideas guys love on you and the LWD was number 6.

“There’s something about a tan woman radiating her angelic beauty in an all-white dress—and it’s courageous, especially if she’s drinking red wine!”
—Jordan, 24

This season it’s all about crisp lines and stiffer fabrics, so ease up on the floaty floaty dresses, and go for something with a little more structure. Below are my top 5 favourite LWD’s…

1. Cut Out Shift Dress – £30.00 – ASOS.com

To say I am in love with this dress would be putting it mildly! It’s subtley sexy, showing leg and with the cut outs, but with a high neck, so it doesn’t look trashy. I am currently putting the ‘berry’ coloured one into my shopping basket. (Obviously I’m not brave enough to go for all white just yet).

2. White Heart Embroidered Dress£28.00 – Topshop.

This little white smock dress is adorable, it will look great with black tights or bare legs. It’s a flattering length, showing off legs without being too short and the embroidery adds a lovely texture to the front. Accessorise it with a thin tan waist belt and a long necklace.

3. White Belted Flared Dress – £45.00 – Dorothy Perkins

With 20% off all online purchases for a limited time (when you spend over £50) go get this dress quick! It’s cute and flirty, the little belt breaks up the white and adds a hint of colour. The high neck and structured bust are flattering and the skirt is a perfect length for either daytime or dressed up for evening wear. Swap the belt for a thin black one and pair with black tights and heeled ankle boots, or go for bare legs and a daring coloured heel.

4. 60s Style Abstract Shift Dress – £35.00 – ASOS.com

I love the geometric details in this dress, it adds texture and dimension while keeping it looking simple. I also love the square neckline and back. It’s short, but not too short with black tights for a daytime look. Wear with block heels to complete the 60s look.

5. Linen Blend Shift Dress – £30.00 – Next.

I don’t normally look in Next for clothes, but you have no idea how tricky it is to find plain white dresses online! Everything is cream or nude. Anyway, I really like this dress, it’s simple with a little extra. The high-necked shift dress is very in this season, it’s all about showing off legs instead of cleavage. I love the little lace window above the bust, it gives away a little, without being overly revealing. When available in petite, tall and plus sizes, it will work for everyone! This is very much a team with sandals and bare legs for a BBQ or lunch date kind of dress, but could be worn with some statement strappy heels and a blazer for an evening meal.

Take a look at some more LWDs here. Winter’s lacey trend has been bought through to spring/summer with a new twist.
