My Top 5: Runway to purple carpet – EMAs 2010

As always “Who’s wearing what?” was one of the hot topics at the EMAs this year, second only to “Who won what?” This year, among the show stoppers were some of my favourites; Miley Cyrus, Host Eva Longoria and Rihanna.

5. Miley Cyrus wore a dress from Dolce & Gabana’s Autumn 2010 collection.

This is one that I feel looks much better on the runway than the purple carpet. Especially considering that Miley is only 17 and from the side there is a lot of flesh on show, including the young stars tattoo.

Ruffles and layered skirts are very in this season, but this gown seems to fit better in the editorial pages of a glossy mag, rather than at an awards ceremony. However with the long tousled golden hair, smokey eye and simple accessories I think she managed to pull it off.

4. Eva Longoria wore a Georges Hobeika creation from the Spring 2010 Couture collection.

The high neckline is balanced out by the amount of tanned and toned legs on show. And with simple black courts, swept up hair, a nude lip and smokey eye, Eva manages to keep what could have been an over-the-top disaster simple and chic. Eva lets the dress speak for itself. I think it almost looks better on her than the model.

3. Rihanna was another one to go with floor length ruffles. Wearing Marchesa from the Spring 2011 collection.

The dress is stunning and I don’t think that Rihanna could have worn it better. Her up-do and fiery red hair adds colour and character to the nude dress, and her simple make-up ensures the look is not overdone. I love the little flash of flesh under her arm and the triangle of skin visible on her chest. The colour of the dress is set of beautifully by her tanned skin, which I feel looks better on Rihanna than Marchesa’s model.

2. Emily Osment, Miley’s Hannah Montana Co-star looked stunning in a BCBG Max Azria dress.

It looks like Emily has had the bottom of the dress hemmed to make it shorter and show more leg for the purple carpet. A good move I’d say, it makes the look more youthful and shows of more of the stars amazing legs. The bright blue looks stunning with her soft blonde curls and the simple accessories keep the look classic, but her blue smokey eye adds a modern touch.

1. Shakira won it for me this year, wearing a plunging custom design by Pamella Roland.

Sharkira literally sparkles in this stunning dress. Her sky-high black peep toes add length to her on display legs. Jewelry could have taken away from the dress or made it look tacky, the dress has just enough sparkle to stand alone, with no need for accessories. Her tousled hair and natural make-up make the dress look effortless, and her figure looks stunning.
