MY FAVOURITE THINGS – PURPLE EDITION

I was faffing about in my room over the weekend thinking about what I can blog about and I thought about all my favourite things at the moment… And they’re all purple.

So maybe some are just purple in packaging, but others are actually purple. I just bought a new dress for my best friend’s wedding next May (I’m so eager), the products I use in my hair, my fave nail polish at the moment and even my favourite pants!

You might not care, but I thought I would share them with you as they each bring joy to my life each day 🙂

  1. Cami Tie Waist Double Split Midi Dress – £40 – ASOS – This is the dress I’ve bought for my friend’s wedding. I know it’s super early, but I saw it, loved it and thought it’s likely it won’t be around when I’m looking for something next May. So now it hangs on the front of my wardrobe being all soft and lovely and making me excited daily!!
  2. KMS California FreeShape Quick Blow Dry – £11.20 – AllBeauty – I use this every single day on my hair. It’s a MIRACLE. It helps hair dry faster, maintain it’s shape once dried and also helps protect hair from heat and add a little extra conditioning to save your hair from damage. GOD SEND.
  3. Barry M Coconut Infusion in Surfboard – £4.99 – Boots/Superdrug – This is my favourite nail colour at the moment, it’s pinky, purpley, pastely and lovely. Plus it lasts for AGES on long and short nails and the coconut oil gives a little nourishment to your nails – win win!
  4. TIGI Bed Head Thickening and Volumizing Small Talk 3 in 1 – £7.75 – AllBeauty – This stuff is also magical! It makes hair feel thicker, look more volumised and also sleek. I don’t know how it does it, but I love it!
  5. Natrol Biotin 10,000mcg, Maximum Strength, 100 Tablets – £7.50 – Amazon – I am taking these supplements for my hair to make it stronger, thicker and healthier. I don’t usually believe in hair supplements and things like that but my hairdresser recommended these and I’ve been taking them for about 3 months now and I have to say my hair feels great! This seems to be all about my strive for thicker, better hair… haha.
  6. Silk & Lace Brazilian Knickers by Rosie for Autograph – £12.50 – Marks & Spencer – Ok so £12.50 is pretty expensive for one pair of pants, but I bought some black ones in the sale before and they are just the most comfortable things EVER and these ones were so pretty I couldn’t resist (plus I had a £5 voucher – thanks M&S credit card!). I love the Brazilian shape, it’s comfortable and sexy without being a constant wedgie. Doesn’t quite give me RHW’s bum though…
  7. Tangle Teezer Purple Dazzle Compact Styler Professional Detangling Brush – £12.50 – ASOS/Boots – More about hair! My Tangle Teezer is my life. If you don’t have one yet, believe the hype, you need one. And this one’s purple. Enough said.

Well there’s a little insight into my purple loves at the moment… Hope you enjoy!

GILMORE GIRLS – STYLISH THEN, STYLISH NOW.

gilmore-girls-cast-wallpapers-1600x1200-1024x768

Gilmore Girls is without question my favourite TV show of all time (I mean maybe Game of Thrones or West Wing or Newsroom or One Tree Hill or Luther come close, but over all, if push came to shove, it’s GG). And yes I’m proud (I have strange pride boundaries) to say that I’ve watched all 7 seasons on Netflix within 2 months of it being available in the UK (about time amiright?).

Watching it again – 16 years after the first season aired back in 2000 – has made me realise that some things really don’t go out of fashion. Except the bandansa Sooki and Laurelai used to wear all the time – those are done. And I got to thinking about how many of the fashion statements we saw Rory and Laurelai wear over those 7 wonderful seasons are still around today – or have come back after a few years off.

So I’ve picked out some of my favourite trends that were in then and are back now, so take a little look at how to emulate Laurelai and Rory with a 2016 twist…

The Spaghetti Strap Slip
Spaghetti Strap Slips.png
This is a Laurelai classic look – she’s a big fan of the triangle top, spaghetti strap slip dress or top for an evening look. Whether it’s metalic, silk/satin or floral, this shape was seen frequently through all 7 seasons and now it’s a look that’s EVERYWHERE! Further great news, baby blues are so in this season, so if you’ve got blue eyes like Laurelai (or me) these will really make them pop!

The Choker/Keyhole Dress
Key hole dresses.png
Another trend that’s all over the high street at the moment – chokers. As Taylor Swift said “I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crowns?” – they are everywhere this summer and now, dresses with built in chokers! That black dress Laurelai wore to the BBQ at her parents house (far right above) was a WOW moment, and now you can get an almost exact replica!

The Bardot Gown
Rory Bardot.png
Who could ever forget Rory’s prom dress which Laurelai made her? And when Emily said ‘Oh good you bought her a dress’ – the highest of Emily praise… *sigh*.
ANYWAY that gorgeous gorgeous man *cough* navy silk bardot gown was the envy of all at the prom (so was Dean) and the shape is back in a big way at the moment. Bardots are everywhere, but I’ve looked out the most sleek and stylish fits for that clean, modern look!

The Shortsleeved/Sleeveless Turtleneck
turtle necks.png
Another trend that’s back and everywhere! This was another staple through the seasons and often worn cropped or with high waisted jeans/skirts – so 2016! Team this look with wide-leg trousers for a chic, office look and denim shorts or skirt for the summer!

The Raglan Tee
raglan

This is a sportswear staple, but as part of the current sportsluxe trend, the raglan tee is a classic casual style. It’s all about the contrast sleeves and bold colours. Team a raglan tee with jeans and trainers for the perfect casual weekend look. Or wear with distressed denim shorts in the summer for a simple, classic sports look.

SUMMER STYLE – LACE & LARGE

So, the bralet trend isn’t a new one, but it’s certainly one that I’m on board with!

As a larger busted lady, I can’t partake in this day-to-day, I need the support! However there’s nothing I love more than getting home after a long day at work and ditching the bra. For those of you blessed with the ability to go bra-less or to live without wires, the hottest trend by far at the moment is the lace bralet. Team your delicate and feminine bralet with the masculine staple of an over-sized shirt for an immediately chic look. Add in some faded, distressed denim for the ultimate cool.

When it comes to colours, the darker the better for the bralet – think black, navy and deep wine colours. And for the shirt, lighter is fresher, you can’t beat a crisp white shirt or a lovely light blue.

So whether you’re looking for a casual but sexy evening look, or if you’re just on the look out for something a little more sexy and comfortable to slip into in the comfort of your own home, I’ve scoured the high street for the best out there…

Red Carpet Trends of 2011

With the Golden Globes on the 16th January and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on the 30th, there have been some amazing frocks gracing the red carpet already in 2011. Here are the top trends and those who wore them best…

Green with Envy

Catherine Zeta-Jones :: Angelina Jolie :: Mila Kunis

The Golden Globes red carpet was littered with green this year. Catherine Zeta-Jones looked ethereal in a deep green full and voluminous gown by Monique Lhuillier. Angelina Jolie sparkled in a Sea Green Versace dress and Mila Kunis looked stunning in Vera Wang.

Fairytales and Feathers

Heather Morris :: Olivia Wilde :: Angie Harmon

The fairytale style strapless gown with full skirt was popular this season, and these ladies pulled it off with class and a bit of embelishment, be it sparkles or feathers, or both. Heather Morris (who plays Brittany in Glee) wore a gorgeous Romona Keveza gown with a feathery bust and stunning sparkled belt. Olivia Wilde shimmered in a stunning Marchesa masterpiece at the Golden Globes. Angie Harmon wore a pale pink feathered Monique Lhuillier gown with beaded bodice and looked amazing at the SAGs.

Shimmering Nude

Anne Hathaway :: Carrie Underwood :: Scarlett Johansson

It seems like the nude dress is not going out of season, and I am so pleased! However it has been glamed up a notch with crystals and sequins. At the Golden Globes Anne Hathaway sparkled in a floor length, low backed Armani. Singer Carrie Underwood shimmered in a gorgeous sweetheart necked Badgley Mischka frock with matching metallic clutch and Scarlett Johansson glistened in Elie Saab.

Pastel Pinks and Peaches

Lea Michele :: Claire Danes :: Emma Stone

Pale pinks and peaches were most ceremony goers shades of choice this year. Glee‘s Lea Michele made a statement in a one shouldered Oscar De La Renta gown. While Emma Stone and Claire Danes achieved flawless simplicity floor length in Calvin Klein dresses.

Saffron Sunset

Jayma Mays :: Sarah Hyland :: Mila Kunis :: Tina Fey

It was at the SAG awards that we saw an array of oranges and reds on the red carpet. Oranges and reds are big colours in fashion this season and these ladies have picked up on it. Glee star Jayma Mays looked lovely in peach silk chiffon with a beaded juliet sleeve by Jenny Packham. Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland looked vibrant and on trend in an orange Max Mara dress. Mila Kunis looked stunning again in an abstract print Alexander McQueen gown and Tina Fey looked fabulous in a bright red floral Oscar De La Renta number. Click here to see some of my favourite orange items on the high street this season.

Midnight Blue

Amy Adams :: Dianna Agron :: Julia Stiles

Midnight blue is navy’s classier older sister and this season it looked lavish and expensive on the red carpet. Amy Adams wore a beautiful midnight blue Marchesa gown to the Golden Globes with intricate laser cut fabric ruffles. Dianna Agron looked much more grown up than her Glee character in Vintage Chanel lace and Julia Stiles looked amazing in dip dye Monique Lhuillier.

Pleather Pleasure: My Top 5 Leather Leggings

After a conversation with a friend the other day, regarding my post about the top 5 leather looks for the season, it was pointed out that I had forgotten to put any leggings in. I love the look of leather or faux leather leggings, adding instant edge to an outfit. Not really a new trend, but a popular one never the less, celebrities love them too…

Lily Donaldson :: Taylor Momsen :: Olivia Palmero :: Ashley Olson

So here are my top 5 favourite styles of pleather, leather and wet-look leggings, just a warning though, real leather doesn’t come cheap!

1. Dagmar Molly Faux Leather Panel Leggings – £109.00 – ASOS.com

If only these were cheaper!! I am in love. I like the fact that they’re not all over leather, just with the panels up the sides. These help slim the leg and also fit with the horse-riding trend at the moment. They look gorgeous with shoe boots and either with a plain white top tucked in and a blazer. Or wear with an oversized vintage rock style Tee and pumps for a casual look.

2. Matt Wet Look Leggings – £22.00 – Topshop

I am going to Topshop tomorrow and buying these. They look really good quality and are a good price. I love the shaped panels and slightly more matt finish to the fabric. Again, wear with a glitzy top and heels for an evening out or with flat boots and a chunky cardigan for a day time look.

3. Leatherette Knit Leggings – £17.80 – Forever21

I really like the leatherette knee panels on these leggings, they’re reasonably priced and have a rocker feel to them with the asymmetric lines. I love the way the model wears them with a roughly tucked white shirt and big metallic bangles.

4. South Wet Look Leggings – £14.00 – Very.co.uk

These are your simple wet look leggings, but cheap! They are a great replacement for your normal leggings, but with an edgier feel. I love when people contrast soft floaty tops with wet look leggings, so try some slightly longer tops with  a little volume to them in a white or cream shade.

5. Kelly Stud Leggings – £8.00 – boohoo.com

To increase the rocker feel to your look, try these cheap and cheerful studded leggings, the wet look looks great and the studs add a little something extra. I like the way the model wears them tucked into lace up boots, or wear with flat biker boots if that’s your style. Team with metal cuffs like the model or opt for bare arms but a big chunky statement necklace.
