Get instantly on trend with the latest and greatest nail colours

In a world where fashion is ever changing, there seems to be a new trend emerging every month.   As students it is impossible to stay on top of fashion when there are more important things in life to spend money on, like eating, paying bills or going out!  However, I know how important it is, for girls especially, to stay on trend and up to date with the fashions.

The quickest, easiest and most importantly cheapest way to do this is with your nails.  Nail polish has become a huge money maker in the cosmetics industry, with sales growing from £96million in 2008 to £132million in 2010, it is now by far the biggest selling colour cosmetic on the market.

No longer are nails something to be done quickly at the last minute, women everywhere are taking more time on their talons, paying closer attention to what’s being seen on the runway.  Whether it’s a block colour, a different colour for every nail, or patterns and pictures, nails are becoming one of the fastest ways for women everywhere to express their own sense of style.

Here is my low down on the best colours to go for this season and the cheapest options! All of the polishes below can be bought from any good Boots and/or Superdrug stores, but for a quick purchase, click on the links below.

Traditional berry reds, pinks and darker colours are out this season, it’s all about the brights and pastels.  My personal favourites are the Rimmel and Nails Inc varnishes, they have great coverage and last for days, the Rimmel especially is great value for money, I’ve just kept reapplying mine every Saturday and it lasts the whole week.

Happy shopping!!

Flirty Floral Fancies: Pretty Pink Print Underwear

The floral trend is huge at the moment, and my favourite is the pale pinks and greens on cream.  The colours are feminine and beautful, plus they give a more vintage feel while still staying modern.  Floral prints are everywhere this season, but my latest obsession is underwear, so here are my favourite underwear and nightwear pretty pieces!

Life under the electric (blue) lights: My top 5 blue bargains

Other than orange, electric blue is the colour to be seen in this season, as well as being fresh and bright, it’s also vibrant without being too ‘out there’, so easy to mix with more of your wardrobe.  I love the bright electric blue jeans and shorts seen on many celebs at the moment, and also love the shoes! Make a statement with a simple dress and some bright blue shoes, like many celebs have done on the red carpet!

Elisha Cuthbert :: Blake Lively :: Jessica Alba :: Kim Kardashian :: Jessica Stroup

The stars love the look and now so can you, for less!  Here are my top 5 electric blue high street buys…

1. Smart City Shorts – £34.99 – River Island

I definitely think that electric blue looks best when next to black, so this little woven belt which comes with these adorable shorts is perfect.  I love the city shorts look, they look great with a simple white vest top tucked in, or with a white shirt for work.  Wear with some yummy black or tan ankle boots for a more sophisticated look.

2. Racer Back Maxi Dress – £17.99 – Missguided

I love the simplicity of this dress, with the interesting back.  It’s perfect for a day at the beach or a day shopping.  Wear with a black waist belt to make the blue really pop and add a little something extra to the look.

3. Pump It Up Suede Platform Court Shoe – £55.00 – ASOS

Heidi Klum

Just like Heidi Klum, these shoes will add extra p-zazz to a simple dress, the monochrome outfit is instantly re-vamped with these bright blue shoes and they look amazing.

Wear them like Heidi with a short dress and simple accessories (never match your accessories to your shoes with bright blue) or go for a simple white tee, black skinnies and then these shoes to jazz up the outfit.

4. Skinny Stretch Jeans – £35.99 – Zara

You cannot go wrong with a good pair of stretch jeans, and these ones incorporate the peg-trouser look, the colourblocking and electic blue trend all in one.  I love the cute turn ups at the bottom and the details on the pockets.  Please do not wear them with these shoes however – yuck!

5. Bikini – Top – £14.90, Bottoms – £9.90 – Mango

Kim Kardashian is a big fan on electric blue, get a bikini like hers from Mango.  This bikini is simple, but the colour is eye-catching and looks much brighter in the flesh, the photograph doesn’t really do it justice.  I love the idea of wearing it under a thin white summer dress with some tan gladiator-style sandals.

Fringe Benefits: My favourite fringed and tasseled scarves

Fringe scarves have been around for years, but this season it’s all about the longer the better on the fringe front.  Fringed and tasseled scarves and shawls can be seen all over the runways as well as on celebs…

Lauren Conrad :: Kate Moss :: Nicole Richie

With this trend it’s best to go for simple black or white.  Alternatively go all out with bright colours and patterns like Nicole Richie above.  Here are my top 10 fave high street buys…

1. Long fringe jersey shawl £14.99 – H&M.   2. Pom-pom scarf £16.90 – Mango.  3. Zig zag scarf £7.99 – New Look.   4. Scarf with small tassels £29.99 – Zara. 5. White fringed scarf £18 – Next.   6. Cream crochet scarf £29.99 – River Island.   7. Woven floral scarf £5.99 – H&M.   8. Neutral weave scarf £12.50 – Next.   9. Multi paisley square scarf £12.00 – Dorothy Perkins.   10. Tribal print foulard £16.90 – Mango.

Bright Bottoms: My top 5 trousers for SS11

Colour blocking is a huge trend this season, and while I think that sometimes it can be a little over the top, I am mad about bright and poppy trousers.  I think that a bright, vibrant leg teamed with a simple white tee or shirt looks amazing for summer.  The celebs are loving bright trousers too:

Rihanna :: Kate Bosworth :: Camilla Belle :: Nicola Roberts

Here are my top 5 high street trouser buys for this season…

1. Relaxed-fit Chino Trousers – £39.90 – Mango

Basically, I am in love with the colour and fit of these trousers.  They are casual, but can be made smart with heels and a blouse or shirt on top.  The colour is very on trend and the cut of the leg is flattering without being too skinny.

2. Skinny Studio Trousers – £35.99 – Zara

Zara have a wide selection of coloured trousers this season, all of them are lovely.  I think this shape and range of colours are most in tune with this season’s trend, with the bright orange, blue and the slouchy peg fit.  Personally I am going to look into purchasing these skinny trousers in pink.  I love the look teamed with a soft fabric top either plain white or with a simple pattern.  They look great with simple pumps, or wear with wedges or sandals for a more summery look.

3. Jet Pocket Slim Cropped Trousers – £40.00 – ASOS.com

Go bright without going over board with these more grown-up colourful trousers.  The mustard yellow is very fashionable at the moment, and the blue is a more subdued colour, but still a makes statment none the less.  I like that they are cropped and slightly more highwaisted.  The mustard with the black top and shoes looks fab.

4. Anna Red Pleated Chino Style Belted Trousers – £22.00 – boohoo.com

One of my besties, Harriet Graham, bought these into my life, I love the chino look and the bright poppy red is a great statement colour for summer.  I love them worn with a stripey sailor style top and sandals, they would also look great with a simple white vest tucked in, flip-flops and a long statement necklace.

5. Leggings Stars – £9.90 – Mango

I need these purple leggings in my life.  I might not wear them a lot, but I LOVE the colour and they give extra pop to a casual leggings and long top combo!  I wish I had a Mango shop in town so I could go try on all their lovely new brights.

Also… Browsing around primark the other day they have some lovely coral skinny jeans and lots of other bright bottoms, so if you’re on a budget then go have a look in there.

I wish I was rich…

Today I spent the day shopping in Bluewater with my older sister for dresses to wear to a friends wedding in March – not an easy feat it must be said, especially when you can’t wear black or white and you’re on a student’s budget! But of course we went and looked in all the expensive stores anyway, like Ted Baker, just to get a taste…

That’s when I fell in love. Their range of prints this season are TDF (to die for) and I couldn’t help but wish I was rich and could afford £200 dresses, just for day to day wear. Here are a few of their stunning prints and dresses available online now.

Elta Strapless Maxi – £229.00

Ashir Printed Tunic – £159.00

Buro Printed Maxi Dress – £199.00

Tenniso Dragonfly Hardcase Clutch – £99.00

Svana Open Toe Platform Shoes – £95.00

I can’t find a close up of the prints, but the dragonfly one is really beautiful, and looks even better in the flesh, plus the quality of the fabric is amazing. So if you’ve got the money, I definitely recommend you head to Ted Baker and check out their stunning Spring/Summer collection!

Top 5: Trends for SS11: Leather

A good leather jacket will never go out of fashion, but the leather trend is branching away from just jackets this season. As the runways and celebs have shown…

Emma Watson :: Jessica Alba :: Whitney Port :: Kristen Bell

Following up from my post about the wardrobe must haves for Spring/Summer 2011, here are the hottest leather looks for the season and how to wear them…

1. Black Chiffon Leather Front Tee – £45 – Topshop.

I love that this top is simple, but with the leather it has some edge and shine. It will look perfect with camel skinnies and ankle boots, or dress it up for a night out with a mini skirt, chunky bangles and sky-high heels.

2. One Teaspoon Studded Leather Jacket – £190 – Asos.com

This jacket is half price at the moment on Asos.com, and how can you resist a real leather bargain like this? I love the studded detail, it adds a tougher feel without looking tacky. The cropped jacket is also in again this season, so it will go with everything. I love leather jackets to toughen up floral girly dresses with boots, or with skinny jeans and vest tops to vamp up a simple day look.

3. Jersey Hooded Biker Gilet – £24.99 – New Look

Black (Black) Jersey Hooded Biker Gilet | 210459901 | New Look

This leather-look gilet/vest is perfect for those looking for the leather look on a budget. Gilet’s are everywhere for the transition from Winter to Spring and this one is comfy and casual while still keeping a biker edge. It looks cute as the model wears it with a jumper and jeans, or it could look cute with a light floral dress, black tights and chunky boots.

4. Renewal Re-made Leather Skirt – £45 – Urban Outfitters.

I love the structuring of this skirt, it’s a simple shape but the V in the front adds character and the pockets are cute. Each item from the Urban Renewal collection is made up of carefully selected items from around the world that bring the past to the present. I love the way the model wears it, with a simple white tee and black tights, this could work with a part of killer heels for a night out, or with a comfy cardigan and boots for a day look. Also try contrasting the tough leather with a light chiffon top.

5. Bomber Faux Leather Jacket – £21.50 – Forever 21

I love this jacket, it’s simple and easy to wear, plus it won’t break the bank! I also love the way it’s been styled on the model, with the soft nude skirt contrasting the tough black leather. Forever 21 is fast becoming one of my favourite online stores, it’s such great value and they have some really nice items! Check out my top 5 Forever 21 items here.
