The Oscars 2011: Anne Hathaway’s Outfits

As a host of the Oscars this year, alongside James Franco, Anne Hathaway had several outfit changes.  Here are the different gowns she wore and a little on which ones I liked and didn’t so much.  Anne was styled on the night by Rachel Zoe and all of her jewelery was provided by Tiffanys.

On the red carpet in Vintage '02 Valentino

I loved this vintage gown, the poppy red colour is very popular on the red carpet at the moment and teamed with the red lipstick and soft, Hathaway looked lovely.

In a burgundy silk gown by Atelier Versace with co-host James Franco

I also loved this deep wine burgundy dress with the structured bodice and flowing skirt and train, I really liked the way her hair was pulled around to a loose side bun as well.

In a gorgeous embellished Givenchy gown and a lace and crystal encrusted Tom Ford design

The Givenchy was a stunning dress, will the embellished metallic bodice creating a beautiful contrast to the full skirt.  The Tom Ford gown on the other hand wasn’t one of my favourites, it doesn’t fit with her usual style, and I feel like she’s too covered up with a high neck and full length.  I haven’t seen the back, but if it has a cut out then I love it, if not, then it’s too much!

Cross dressing with James Franco, Hathaway wears a custom made Lanvin Tux

Hathaway, while wearing menswear, managed to look feminine and beautiful in this Lanvin tux with amazing metallic heels and a cute 60s style ponytail.

In silver fringed Oscar de la Renta

I wasn’t a huge fan of this dress either, while its intricate and beautiful, i doesn’t do a lot for Hathaway’s figure, and I’m not sure about the asymmetrical one shoulder look. I also feel her hair looked under done to accompany such a glittering dress.

In a metallic blue Giorgio Armani dress and corsetted Vivienne Westwood ball gown

I’m sorry to say I didn’t like the Armani dress either, Hathaway looked lovely in the sapphire blue, but the neckline and bust weren’t flattering on her.  However I loved it from the waist down, with the column style skirt.  Finally the Vivienne Westwood ball gown, said to be designed in London specifically for the occasion was beautiful,  but again isn’t something Hathaway would normally wear and I think she looks a little uncomfortable in it.  The dress makes her look very pale and washed out.  Another aspect I didn’t like of this outfit was her severe pulled back hair, the whole ensemble reminds me of when Hathaway was in The Princess Diaries.

Red Carpet Trends of 2011

With the Golden Globes on the 16th January and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on the 30th, there have been some amazing frocks gracing the red carpet already in 2011. Here are the top trends and those who wore them best…

Green with Envy

Catherine Zeta-Jones :: Angelina Jolie :: Mila Kunis

The Golden Globes red carpet was littered with green this year. Catherine Zeta-Jones looked ethereal in a deep green full and voluminous gown by Monique Lhuillier. Angelina Jolie sparkled in a Sea Green Versace dress and Mila Kunis looked stunning in Vera Wang.

Fairytales and Feathers

Heather Morris :: Olivia Wilde :: Angie Harmon

The fairytale style strapless gown with full skirt was popular this season, and these ladies pulled it off with class and a bit of embelishment, be it sparkles or feathers, or both. Heather Morris (who plays Brittany in Glee) wore a gorgeous Romona Keveza gown with a feathery bust and stunning sparkled belt. Olivia Wilde shimmered in a stunning Marchesa masterpiece at the Golden Globes. Angie Harmon wore a pale pink feathered Monique Lhuillier gown with beaded bodice and looked amazing at the SAGs.

Shimmering Nude

Anne Hathaway :: Carrie Underwood :: Scarlett Johansson

It seems like the nude dress is not going out of season, and I am so pleased! However it has been glamed up a notch with crystals and sequins. At the Golden Globes Anne Hathaway sparkled in a floor length, low backed Armani. Singer Carrie Underwood shimmered in a gorgeous sweetheart necked Badgley Mischka frock with matching metallic clutch and Scarlett Johansson glistened in Elie Saab.

Pastel Pinks and Peaches

Lea Michele :: Claire Danes :: Emma Stone

Pale pinks and peaches were most ceremony goers shades of choice this year. Glee‘s Lea Michele made a statement in a one shouldered Oscar De La Renta gown. While Emma Stone and Claire Danes achieved flawless simplicity floor length in Calvin Klein dresses.

Saffron Sunset

Jayma Mays :: Sarah Hyland :: Mila Kunis :: Tina Fey

It was at the SAG awards that we saw an array of oranges and reds on the red carpet. Oranges and reds are big colours in fashion this season and these ladies have picked up on it. Glee star Jayma Mays looked lovely in peach silk chiffon with a beaded juliet sleeve by Jenny Packham. Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland looked vibrant and on trend in an orange Max Mara dress. Mila Kunis looked stunning again in an abstract print Alexander McQueen gown and Tina Fey looked fabulous in a bright red floral Oscar De La Renta number. Click here to see some of my favourite orange items on the high street this season.

Midnight Blue

Amy Adams :: Dianna Agron :: Julia Stiles

Midnight blue is navy’s classier older sister and this season it looked lavish and expensive on the red carpet. Amy Adams wore a beautiful midnight blue Marchesa gown to the Golden Globes with intricate laser cut fabric ruffles. Dianna Agron looked much more grown up than her Glee character in Vintage Chanel lace and Julia Stiles looked amazing in dip dye Monique Lhuillier.

Top 5: Gossip Girl dresses through the seasons

This was the easiest and yet most difficult post to write! Easy because there are so many stunning dresses on  The CW‘s Gossip Girl, and difficult because there are SO MANY stunning dresses!! Finally I narrowed it down to the top 5 breathtaking dresses throughout the four seasons.

1. Serena’s white party dress – Season 2 – by Oscar de la Renta

This dress has to be my ultimate favourite, in fact I want it to be my wedding dress!! It’s stunning and flattering to Blake Lively’s figure, I think it looks better on her curves than on the runway. The way it was all out together, with her hair and jewelry to create a grecian godess look was very in in 2008, but this effortless style still works for 2011. A beautiful floaty white maxi dress can never fail in my eyes!

2. Serena’s Mullet dress – Season 4 – by Zuhair Murad

This almost-mullet dress is another which made me stop in my tracks when watching the show. Blake Lively looked amazing in it. I love the way it’s a long dress, but still shows of her amazing legs. It also pulls in at her tiny waist and shows cleavage without being too racy, which makes it sexier I think. Lace was very in last season, as was gun-metal-grey, so as well as being beautiful, this Zuhair Murad gown was so on trend. Exactly what you’d expect from an Upper East side girl in New York!

3. Blair’s Prom dress – Season 2 – by Marchesa

This gown is absolutely stunning, from the Marchesa Spring 08 collection, it’s intricate and yet bold at the same time. Marchesa is one of my favourite designers, and this could be one of my favourite gowns by the English duo. As well as being beautiful, the dress fits perfectly with Blair’s style, she wears romantic strapless dresses with voluminous skirts, where as Serena often opts for slinky, sleeved or strappy numbers. Therefore this was an obvious choice for Blair’s Prom gown and it definitely didn’t fail to wow us.

4. Vanessa’s cap sleeve gown – Season 3 – by Reem Acra

Normally I’m not a fan of Vanessa’s style in Gossip Girl, usually she is put in bright colours and prints. Although these look great on actress Jessica Szohr, they are not to my taste. So I was pleasantly surprised to see her in a Reem Acra gown in season 3. The colour looks stunning on her, and the neck line is so flattering. I love the jewel encrusted cap sleeves and the gorgeous floating skirt. I also love the way it as been styled with a red lip, diamond earrings and a soft up-do, for a sultry old Hollywood glamour look.

5. Blair’s Parisian red dress – Season 4 – by Oscar de la Renta

There is no denying that this dress is beautiful. With all of the different reds, oranges and corals, the ruffles are accentuated and add depth to the skirt. Again it fits with Blair’s style of strapless and voluminous. However the bright colour is quite out of character for Blair. However actress Leighton Meester pulls it off perfectly on set in Paris. Teamed with a red lip, gorgeous swept back hair and bright pink clutch, the dress is a jaw dropper.

I can’t wait for Gossip Girl to come back after it’s mid-season holiday break now, so that I can get my fix of the drama and of course, more stunning gowns.

Gossip Girl airs again on the 24th Jan 2011 in the US and returns to the UK on ITV2 soon.
